ANDEAN MEDICINAL PLANT + SPANISH
(2 weeks minimum)

During this course students will not only learn about our medicinal plants in Peru to take a glance into our rich history but will simultaneously be learning Spanish in Cusco. This course will allow you to learn how Andean people cure a “cold”, how they fight cancer and how they preserve such perfect teeth.

This course is divided into Spanish classes and lessons studying the plants and ecosystems of the mountains. By the end of the course students will be able to recognize a large number of Andean medicinal plants and the way locals use them. We will complement our lessons with visits to the University and other organizations to learn about these plants in situ. We will also visit local markets to see the way Andean indigenous folk trade with these plants and meet Dr. Valdivia, the only doctor in Cusco who works with these medicinal plants.

Upon arrival, we will pick you up from the airport and you will meet your new family in Cusco if you decide to take the FAMILY STAY OPTION, if not, we will meet you at our school Monday to begin your lessons.

SCHEDULE

FIRST WEEK: You will have 4 hours of Spanish lessons a day and you will learn about Spanish Grammar and receive classes about medicinal plants as a preamble for the following week. Your classes will be divided into three parts each day as follows:
• 1:45 hours Spanish Grammar
• Break (15 minutes)
• 1 hour of Medicinal Plants lectures
• 1 hour of Conversational classes

SECOND WEEK: You will begin your week with Spanish lessons and classes on Medicinal plants. At the same time you will visit many different places to learn about these marvelous plants. Your lessons this week will be divided as follows:
1 hour Spanish lessons
˝ hour of Medicinal Plant lectures

Visits to different places:
Day 1(M): We will visit local markets to discover how these plants are traded and used by the locals.

Day 2(T): We will visit Doctor Vaildivia’s clinic to have an interesting lecture on what he does and the way he uses all these plants (*)

Day 3(W): We will visit the local University to find out about new and upcoming research and on these plants

Day 4(T): Visit to Medicinal plant shops

Day 5(F): Final Lectures in our school followed by a test
(*) Depending on Doctor Valdivia’s availability we might change the visit’s time and lecture.
